Is it possible to tell a cheater from a non-cheater?
According to study researcher, Justin Garcia from the Binghamton University in New York, there in one particular gene variant, known as DRD4, that may determine if your girlfriend is wired into promiscuity.
Okay, we’re not telling you to go have your girlfriend tested (and please, don’t start pulling strands of her hair, pricking her ‘unintentionally’ or scrapping DNA from her tongue – she’s gonna get pissed).
Unfortunately, there really isn’t any other way of finding out. However, if your girlfriend loves horror movies and favors the color blue, you’ll have to be on guard. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll cheat on you. But researchers have found that those are just two of the many signs that infidelity and one-night stands are her thing.
On a side note, the genetic variation, DRD4 is also linked to gambling addiction, alcoholism and liberalism. People with this gene tend to have stronger urges, desires and motivations. Hence, constantly seeking thrill-inducing experiences.
In the study conducted by Garcia and his team of fellow researchers, DNA samples and the detailed sexual history of 181 young adults were gathered. Upon studying their DNA structures and comparing it to the sexual history, those with the gene variation were more likely to have some sort of history with cheating and flings than those without it.
Take note of the words “more likely“. Not everyone with this gene will cheat or have one-night stands. 50 percent of those tested positive for the gene kept their wandering urges under tight control, and even those without it had shady sexual pasts too.
You know, having a girlfriend with this gene isn’t so bad after all. She’ll be a whole lot of fun because of her thrill-seeking nature. She’ll probably love to explore for adventures like skydiving, rock-climbing, snowboarding and jet-skiing.
